Ganadhje CLR by genocidalpenguin Ganadhje CLR by genocidalpenguin
I did a little colouring experiment on this one. the shading was done with a pencil on a copy and was then scanned and added in photoshop.

edit: added some chipping and stains on the armour.
edit2: added highlights.

Now with the texture it looks quite like Shirow Masamune's work... great results, you should try it with some more models.

Wow, that looks awesome, kinda reminds me of ZOne of the Enders because the fact that there is cloth beneath the armor. Good job!!

I dunno what an LEV is. I mean these mech things that look kinda like a space shuttle; there is some kind of fabric between all the joints.

Grooviness :) That's pretty much the same approach I used on the older FOIL designs except they were painted in Windsor & Newton transparent watercolors over the pencil shaded illos. It was when I got to doing CG work that I took those illos, scanned em in and decided to do some Photoshop color enhancement. Now this illo is pretty much the exact same process as what you did on the post [link] It's a fully shaded pencil illustration I took into Photoshop and added CG colors to, underneath the multiplied pencil layer :) The only difference is the original pencil illo also has a coat of polyurethane which tints the illo yellow to sepia in tone.

The Mech looks great and if you continue to experiment with that approach there are some cool things Iím sure you will end up with. The great thing about that technique is the pencil shading adds a sort of dirtiness to the forms and causes your shadows to be defined by the pencil, not so much the CG colors, though I often go in and enhance the shading to deepen the values. Also it can be interesting to add texture to the liio with pencil shades and then that will show in the Photshop version and you can work CG colors into those touches to add more texture. It can be a really cool process overall :)

Nice :) That peciled or in Photoshop adds? Funny thing about this process is pencils touches can blend with CG pretty well :) Looks cool though :D

Coolness. Another cool thing to try with this tecnique is if you apply fairly heavy pencil rendered shadowing (a blending stump rocks for subtle gradation shades in the pencil work), like a lot of contrast and texture, once you take that into Photoshop all you do and go in with the eraser tool and simply erase out the highlights. Once those areas are erased out going in with a litghter color in photoshop really pops em out :D

that’s a good trick, but keep in mind I don’t have a working tablet at the moment. right now I’m sticking to the filters and filler tool :)
oh, and the highlights are done. I did the chipping as well, to give them more depth.

Ahh, yes I went and forgot on the tab. I rememeber you're talking about problems with the drivers, come to think of it now I don't recall you getting it working and clearly it's still down :( Still it looks good even without having used a tablet really. I dig your chips, they actually look sorta like smal arms fire dents which is pretty cool :)

sweet man, i love how assault like your mecha are, yet they have hardly any weapons

have you done any with high neck guards on one of the spoulders?

thanks. I try to keep ’em clean in the concept pics. weapons and equipment would obscure a lot of the basic shapes.

you mean like a knights armour?

i like to think that you mecha have weapons and equipment integrated into the main body
although saying that they look so fast that they could just open and destroy with the hands like can openers.

yeah sorry a spoulder is the shoulder plate on a suit of armour, what i mean is have you got any stuff with a high plate parallel with the head which protects the neck and side of head from a high blow if you know what i mean.
